Asian American and Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy

A regranting initiative to provide general support and capacity building to Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim and South Asian (AMEMSA) serving nonprofit organizations, through the Civic Engagement Fund.

Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy (AAPIP) is a national membership and philanthropic advocacy organization dedicated to advancing philanthropy and Asian American/Pacific Islander communities. The Civic Engagement Fund is a capacity building initiative designed to support AMEMSA serving nonprofit organizations through a blend of organizational support grants, technical assistance and peer learning opportunities.

Counties Served:

Total Award: $350,000

Program Details:
AAPIP will provide 7 organizations with general support grants. Each organization will receive approximately $25,000. Organizations will also receive a well-integrated program of technical assistance. First, organizations will complete a self-assessment to identify specific capacity building projects. AAPIP staff will then design quarterly capacity building meetings to provide peer learning opportunities and individual assistance. Topics for the quarterly meetings will be based on the needs and desires of participating organizations. They will likely include leadership development, community organizing, policy advocacy, and media and communications.

Selection process:
Grants will be awarded on an open and competitive basis. Civic Engagement Fund staff will conduct extensive outreach using their database of organizations, among other methods. Eligible organizations will be led by or serve primarily Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim and South Asian communities, have a mission and values that reflect a social justice framework and be a 501(c)3 organization or be sponsored by one. AAPIP will release an open Request for Proposals, and grant requests will be reviewed by CEF staff, who will make funding recommendations to the AAPIP board of directors.
